AVI Player - Frequently asked questions

Q: Is avi player download free?

A: Yes, AVI player is based on open source free VLC player - so it goes absolutely free of charge for you.

Q: An AVI player was preloaded on my computer. Can I download a different player?

A: Yes, a different AVI player can be downloaded to any computer as long as the computer meets or exceeds the system requirements for the software.

Q: If I download a new AVI player, will the once currently on my computer be disabled?

A: No. The new AVI player will automatically download to its own directory, unless directed otherwise. The user will have the choice of which player to use.

Q: Is a free AVI player better or worse than the programs that have a cost associated with them?

A: One is not necessarily better than the other. It depends on how the program will be used and what the expectations for the players are. A player at no cost might not have the level of technical support that might be required if problems are encountered. Freeware programs are great for those that do not want to spend any money but might want a little better player than their computer currently has.

Q: Do I need to download any additional software to make the AVI player work?

A: NO, avi player is self contained and have everything necessary to make the program work and watch videos. However, if a codex code is missing, it will automatically be downloaded when the player is set up or it will be automatically downloaded when a file needing a specific code is set to play.

Q: My video is blank, how can I fix that?

A: Assuming the video is a good video; check to make sure the MPEG-2 encoder is installed and enabled. The decoder is usually found wither in “tools” or “options.”

Q: Playback is not smooth. The video seems to stutter. Does that mean my AVI player is corrupt?

A: If the video stutters, it may be due to an aberration in the overlay mixer and that aberration is most likely a bug in the graphics driver. There are two solutions that may fix the bug. One is to change the video renderer by choosing the direct show video output option or enable the high quality YV12 to RGB conversion.

Q: Is there any way I can see which codec’s and direct show filters are being used to play my file?

A: If you click on “menu” and then click “play” and “filters” that information will be shown.
